The Commercial Operation Management System (COMS) is now in full scale operation island wide and this solution is accessible through the IP VPN connections. In order to extend the reach of the solution for the field officers, a mobile app has been developed and it is now available through the official web site of the NWSDB. The Mobile app facilitates the field staff to access the central system through a mobile data connection. The field officers can get various details related to customer accounts such as profile details, billing and payment histories, outstanding amounts, payments done recently etc. Also, this app facilitates the field officers to access the work orders issued by the superiors and update the completion details to the central system directly from the mobile app while they are at the field. The present version of the mobile app includes the most common types of work orders such as work orders related to new connections (for feasibility/estimation and for providing connection), defective meter replacements, etc. and the app will be extended in future to include more work order types. The app utilizes the GIS coordinates of the customer connections to locate them on google map so that the field officers can easily locate/navigate to the customer locations.
